Manzanita Mon Amour

From the cold mountainous regions of California (i.e., my back yard) come these rich-toned trees with their stiff, in-your-face branches. Actually there are 106 species of manzanita, but who can tell them apart? Not me.

Methinks the beauty of these beasts lies in the naturally saturated color of the bark.
