It’s hard to complain about the price of gas here when you see what Japan is enduring with courage and stoicism. Most of the leading camera manufacturers there (Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Sony, Olympus, Casio, Panasonic, and Ricoh have either reported injuries to employees or damage to facilities. The thoughts of the world are with the Japanese people.
The disruption in production has already resulted in rising prices and shipment delays.
Prices have even risen on older models. For example, the Nikon D300s body is now listed at $1599 at Adorama. I purchased mine last year for $1450.
According to Nikon Rumors: Nikon is planning to move part of its production outside Japan.
