Total Lunar Eclipse (12/20/2010)

I took this stunning shot of the lunar eclipse last night. I used a Nikon D300s and a AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR lens. Exposure: 45 sec at f/8; ISO 1500. I used a tripod, of course, and a remote release—essential for obtaining a shot like this. (Click on the image for a larger view.)

Alas, it’s too late for my Christmas card, but I’ll definitely use it next year.

In the meantime I made the shot my laptop’s desktop background, and I kind of liked the way it looked. (Thanks for the suggestion, Scott!)

The photo is dedicated to the memory of Alphonse Allais.

This is post #481. Be sure to join me for the gala celebration of my 500th post next year.
