Shoot on the Wild Side

This new book from Rocky Nook goes out on a limb—or. rather. it encourages the reader to climb out there. The Wild Side of Photography: Unconventional and Creative Techniques for the Courageous Photographer by Cyrill Hamischmacher is just that—unconventional, and all I can say is what took so long?

The market is flooded with so many boring photography how-to’s it’s enough to make a shutterbug toss his camera and take up golf. This book will, at the very least, hold your interest… and probably inspire you to try something different. I must confess I’m not courageous (or foolish) enough to mess around with camera hacks that involve “modifying your firmware,”  so I skipped that chapter. But there are several ingenious ideas in this book that made me cry “wow!”

For example, the author shows how turn your laptop into a mini photo studio by using photos on the LCD as a background when shooting objects. It’s a clever idea I would never have thought of. There are others as well, but why spoil the fun? Check out the book for yourself.
