It looks like a bag from the good old days, but that’s the style of the Retrospective 20 from Think Tank Photo in Santa Rosa. It’s one step back and three steps into the future. Minimalist, low-key, unobtrusive, with a dash of “covert.” It comes in handy when you’re on location and don’t want to announce to the world you’re carting thousands of dollars worth of camera gear. The Retrospective soft-sided shoulder bag doesn’t look like it could stow a pro DSLR with an attached 70-200mm lens and 4 extra lenses, but it does. On the sly, so to speak. It’s a brilliant design trick—slim yet roomy.
The bag features “Sound Silencers” under the front flap so you can remove your camera without anyone knowing. Underneath the flap are two expandable pockets for stashing an extra DSLR body and a speedlight. There’s also a large zippered pocket with an organizer—perfect for a flat-folding LumiQuest Softbox III.
Tucked inside the main compartment is a seam-sealed rain cover and assorted removable dividers for a customized interior. You can even attach accessories to the exterior loops. The adjustable shoulder strap has a cushioned non-slip pad, and the bag clings nicely to the body when moving. The pinestone fabric exterior (also available in black) doesn’t hog the spotlight, it’s understated cool.
Photojournalists are gonna snap up the Retrospective 20, so I suggest you order one soon.
